Before enrolling, prospective students should review individual course prerequisites, which may include foundational knowledge of medical terminology or prior experience in healthcare settings. This ensures everyone starts with the skills needed to thrive.

Certified Professional Coder (CPC)

Medical Terminology, Anatomy, and Physiology (MTAP)

Professional Medical Coding Course
Certified Outpatient Coder (COC)

Evaulation & Management, Auditing, and Abstracting

This course is prepares for students for the CPC certification exam.

The course will teach students to read a medical record and determine what services were provided to the patient. Students will also learn to apply the Medicare Coding Guidelines when selecting the appropriate service and diagnosis codes.

As part of this course the student will also learn the skills needed to pass the AAPC Professional Medical Coder Certification Examination.

Classroom hours: 334

This course covers basic Human Anatomy, Physiology, and Medical Terminology taught at the level required for a Professional Medical Coder.

It is a prerequisite for enrollment in the CPC course, but can be waived under certain circumstances.

22 CEUs

This course is designed for students that have already achieved certification as a CPC.

Students will use skills obtained in the CPC course and apply them to coding in the outpatient setting.

Classroom hours: 144
40 CEUs

This course addresses the variety of evaluation and management documentation guidelines and their implementation.

It teaches the coder how to schedule and perform a chart audit. Discussion on frequency, prospective versus retrospective audits and sampling is provided.

The information in this chapter is not included on the CPC examination. This chapter is not taught during the 35-week CPC course.

This CEU course is only offered as a separate module after certification has been achieved. This course is a 10-session class presented as a workshop.
