Professional Medical Coding COC Preparation Course

This course utilizes the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) Professional Medical Coding Curriculum and the Instructor Lynn Schoeler is a Certified Professional Coder Instructor licensed by the AAPC. There are many career opportunities available for those individuals who have achieved status as a COC (previously titled CPC-H). This credential lets potential employers know that you are making a consistent effort to improve your skills. A person who is a COC has attained a specific level of knowledge and expertise in coding services and procedures as well as diagnoses to provide surgery centers and outpatient hospitals with professional coding services.

Objective

A Coder who obtains the Certified Professional Coder-Hospital Certification is familiar with both the Physician Office Coding as well as the Hospital Based Outpatient Coding. The COC has experience with coding and reimbursement issues for outpatient facility services including use of the UB04 form vs. the CMS 1500 form, and use of revenue codes. The hospital outpatient coder also understands APC’s and procedural vs. diagnostic based payment methodologies. Also the hospital outpatient coder should have knowledge of professional as well as facility billing procedures and use of all coding resources, and Medicare guidelines.

As part of this course the student will also learn the skills needed to pass the AAPC Professional Medical Coding Certification Examination.
