Implementation date for ICD-10-CM has been set by the U S Congress for October 1, 2015. All coders will need to prepare to use both ICD-9-CM Diagnosis codes for certain payers and the new ICD-10-CM Diagnosis codes for most other payers. Certified Coders will be required to pass the AAPC’s proficiency test to retain certification by December 31, 2015.
The student will be able to look up the appropriate diagnosis code in the ICD-10-CM Coding Book for Physicians, understand and apply the guidelines for use of these codes. As part of this curriculum the student will also learn the skills needed to pass the AAPC ICD-10-CM Proficiency Test.
