Prerequisites:
GED or High School Diploma
Attendance in a Medical Terminology Anatomy/Physiology Course
Attendance in the Professional Medical Coder CPC Preparation Course or being CPC Certified through the AAPC
(Exceptions are made for Physicians and Medical Office Managers who require this class)
DESCRIPTION
ICD-10CM Diagnosis Coding Course
This course utilizes the American Medical Association (AMA) ICD-10-CM Coding Workbook second edition by Deborah Grider. During this course students will learn to utilize the coding reference book ICD-10-CM, to code using the new ICD-10-CM Diagnosis Codes.
Implementation date for ICD-10-CM has been set by the U S Congress for October 1, 2015. All coders will need to prepare to use both ICD-9-CM Diagnosis codes for certain payers and the new ICD-10-CM Diagnosis codes for most other payers. Certified Coders will be required to pass the AAPC’s proficiency test to retain certification by December 31, 2015.
Objective
The student will be able to look up the appropriate diagnosis code in the ICD-10-CM Coding Book for Physicians, understand and apply the guidelines for use of these codes. As part of this curriculum the student will also learn the skills needed to pass the AAPC ICD-10-CM Proficiency Test.
